Don’t spend that Lincoln! Build your vacation fund $5 at a time

My friend has saved $240 in one month without even trying by following a tip from Budget Travel magazine. She will use the cash as spending money on an upcoming vacation. She swears by this money-saving trick – here are the details.

Don’t spend that Lincoln!

Each time you find yourself in possession of a $5 bill, put it into your vacation fund. My friend didn’t purposely seek out $5 bills, she simply received them as change after she had bought something with a larger bill, such as a $20. Put the money in a special place, such as a jar or an envelope, so you won’t be tempted to spend it until traveling.

The use of $5 bills

Smaller bills, such as a $5, are great for grabbing a cup of coffee, tipping a bellman or concierge, or buying a small souvenir.
